Sewall House Yoga Retreat
by Donna Davidge
(Island Falls, Maine)
Eco: We do our best to be very aware of the environment in the tradition of my great grandfather, nature guide William Sewall. We compost and use bulk products - in summer, laundry is always hung out to dry, we use local produce when in season and are in an historical landmark instead of creating new buildings etc and use organic food and cleaners mostly.
Beauty: In a small New England town yet close to two pristine lakes- including our cabin 5 miles down the lake with compost toilet and lake water to shower in. Baxter State Park is a wilderness park and home to the majestic Mount Katahdin, which Henry David Thoreau, among others, climbed and wrote about its majestic beauty. We do yoga on a lake with very little boat traffic- natural pristine beauty.
Yoga: We have devoted the past 26 years (since 1985) to pursuing study and teaching of Yoga, studying with some of the best teachers NYC has to offer and teaching there as well when not in Maine at Sewall House, to offer a retreat for beginners or more experienced yoga practitioners. We offer small teacher trainings when people approach us to do them. Sept 2011 is next scheduled training.
