Yogi Mir's Answer:

Dear Kat,

Indeed, Lupus is a challenging health condition. I am going to give some simple recommendations. This should always be individualized with a qualified therapist/physician.

Treat Lupus as a Vata imbalance. This means, one needs to build their energy reserves (Ojas).

First, develop a regular breathing practice. Simply sit down and breathe gently and deeply. Keep the breath smooth and steady and very very gradually increase the length of inhalations and exhalations.

See the practice of Deerga Swaasam on this page.

Next, teach yourself to visualize the flow of Prana (life force) as you breathe. Prana flows in on inhale; Prana settles deeper into the body and its cells on exhale. This may take a while to visualize comfortably. But with practice, it becomes a habit vitally important in raising energy in one's body and being able to direct energy.

Second thing to look at is exercise. For Lupus, as for most Vata conditions, it's important to move, but only within (and not beyond) the comfort zone. No deep stretching. No holding strenuous poses. Just move ease-fully through gentle routines, ideally with breath.

Third, one must learn to let go and relax any part or any tension in their body. Practice conscious Deep Relaxation. See more details here.

Finally, one needs to take a closer look at their diet. In general, most acid-forming foods (sugary, processed, canned, left-over, animal, and dairy foods) should be eliminated. If this is not possible, start with eliminating one type of food for a week, and see how it affects the level of energy and if you feel less exhaustion.

Regular 3 meals. A good idea is to add some supplements: Vitamin C, Coenzyme Q10, and some adrenal support supplements. Ideally, diet should also be discussed with a qualified health counselor or nutrition coach.

Love and Light on your healing path. Namaste,

Yogi Mir
