Yoga for Cardiovascular Workout


Combine movement with rhythmic breath as in a dynamic Hatha or Vinyasa yoga class.

Start slowly, and gradually transition into a more fast-paced practice.

The following yoga poses are only suggestions and are not meant as a recommended sequence. Please consult a yoga teacher for more details


Contraindications: Heart conditions, inflammation, arthritis, chronic pain.

Caution: Do not attempt any of these exercises without the guidance of a qualified professional.

Yoga Recommendations:

1. Basic Sun Salutations
2. Sun Salutes: Variation A
3. Sun Salutes: Variation B
4. Warrior Vinyasas (A, B, C, D)


5. Dynamic Cobra

Inhale roll up, exhale roll down. As a variation, inhale roll up and twist to one side looking back at the feet; exhale roll down.

6. Bow Pose

Breathe deeply into the belly.
7. Headstand
Practice the preparatory poses in the beginning stages.

8. Child's pose

Take a couple of breaths here.


9. Abdominal twist on the back.

Cooling down.
